This week’s class was all about UX writing—or microcopy. (Different from copywriting!!)
Microcopy is all about guiding users through a product so they can complete tasks easily. It’s less about grabbing attention and more about making everything feel seamless.
Good microcopy is about making life easier for your users, it also makes the design feel more polished. Clear, simple text helps people complete tasks efficiently. Things like signing up, logging in, or making a purchase without having to stop and think about it.
What was interesting for me was how even tiny word choices can change how a user feels. For example:
Small wording changes, big impact.
One of the big takeaways for me was that every word you write has to reflect your brand’s tone of voice, which we’ve looked at before. Whether it’s fun and approachable or formal and professional, even small details (like whether you write “login” as one word or two) can shape how people see your product.
Stay away from bad error messages!!!!
Bad- Codes/technical jargon
Good- BBC or Mailchimp for example. Offering help or a solution.
On the other hand, success messages are important too. Well Done!
